A mailbox is full, or you need more space

What happens when a mailbox fills up, and the three ways to fix it.

When a mailbox hits its quota it stops accepting new mail and senders get a bounce. Your dashboard warns you at 75% and again at 90%, so this should never come as a surprise.

What your plan gives you

PlanMailboxesSpace per mailbox
Starter52 GB
Business255 GB
Scale10010 GB

All mailboxes share the account's total storage, which is also where your website files live.

Three ways to fix a full mailbox

1. Clear out what you do not need. Empty the Trash and Junk folders first, they are usually the biggest win. Large attachments in Sent are the next place to look.

2. Give it more space. Go to Email in your dashboard, press Storage next to the mailbox, and set a new size. You can move space between mailboxes freely, up to your plan's per-mailbox limit.

3. Move to a bigger plan. If you are at your plan's limit, upgrading takes effect immediately and the cost is pro-rated. Your mail is untouched.

Why we cannot just set it to unlimited

Every host has a real disk underneath. We publish the actual number rather than promising unlimited and then quietly throttling you. If you need more than Scale gives, talk to us and we will size something properly.

Asking Hostiy

You can say "how full is info@mydomain.co.za" or "give sales@ another 2GB" and it will do it, as long as it stays inside your plan. If it does not, it will tell you what upgrading would cost instead of just refusing.

Still stuck?

Ask Hostiy in the corner. It can see your account, so it will give you the answer for your setup rather than the general one. Anything it cannot answer goes to a person.
